Living In: Muriel?s Wedding

When we decided this months theme would be weddings, I got excited to plan what our Living In movies would be. Mainly because Ive been dying for a reason to do just about anything with Muriels Wedding. I fell in love with it instantly when it came out in 1994 and it has remained just as funny, touching and relevant as it was almost 20 years ago. Toni Collette is of course brilliant and Rachel Griffiths is the perfect foil to her character, who is hopelessly in love with the idea of getting married. What moved me so much about this movie was the friendship between Muriel and Rhonda. Their storyline is a wonderfully real and genuine reminder that friendship and standing by your friends is worth more than just about anything else. Aesthetically, this movie is an irresistible mix of mildly 80s styles and Abba-chic. Speaking of Abba, theyre basically one of the main characters of the film, in a way. If you havent seen Muriels Wedding do yourself a favor and watch it on Netflix this weekend. You dont have to care about weddings, tradition or anything like that to enjoy it- its just a beautiful story about friendship and being yourself. xo, grace Sources and more Muriel/Marial after the jump (more)
